Hello everyone! Today, I want to discuss how your environment affects you. This topic is very personal to me because it significantly impacted my life. I realized the extent of its influence a bit late, but fortunately, it wasn't too late. I hope my insights can help you, my students, who are working hard despite being in schools that might not offer the best environments.
With the rise of pricey and expensive non-governmental schools, the situation in governmental schools has worsened. Students who strive for good grades may face ridicule and be labeled with terms like "nerd." Today, we'll explore why people might say these things to you and how you should approach these situations.
There are a few reasons why some individuals might mock you for excelling academically:
Understand Your Brain: Your brain is designed to be social and seeks immediate gratification. It doesn't naturally prioritize long-term benefits. It's important to recognize this and not let short-term social pressures derail your long-term goals.
Don't Fear Being Labeled: Being called a "nerd" or any other name is not something to fear. It’s essential to stay focused on your goals and not let the opinions of others dictate your actions.
Choose Your Friends Wisely: I'm not suggesting you isolate yourself, but be mindful of the company you keep. Surround yourself with people who support and uplift you rather than those who try to bring you down.
Ignore Negativity: People will often have opinions about whether you studied or not, or they might accuse you of over-preparing. Don't waste energy on these distractions. Focus on your tasks and let your results speak for themselves.
Don't Seek Universal Approval: It's natural to want to be liked by everyone, especially when you're young. However, it's impossible to please everyone. Some people might dislike you simply because you achieve higher scores or have a more comfortable life. Jealousy and insecurity can drive negative behavior.
Filter Constructive Criticism: While it's important to ignore baseless negativity, pay attention to constructive criticism. Even well-intentioned comments can sometimes hurt, but they can also offer valuable insights for improvement.
Embrace Strong Competition: Don't pray for weaker rivals. Instead, pray for strong rivals who challenge you to improve. The stronger your competition, the stronger you will become. This mindset fosters growth and resilience.
In summary, your environment significantly influences your academic and personal development. Recognize the motivations behind others' negative behavior and don't let it derail your progress. Stay focused on your goals, choose your friends wisely, and embrace the challenges that come your way. By doing so, you can turn a potentially toxic environment into a catalyst for personal growth and success. Keep striving, and don't let external negativity affect your internal drive.
